The 1850–1866 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Type 1 XF is a historic United States gold coin minted during the California Gold Rush era. Composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, each coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold and represents one of the earliest Double Eagle designs in U.S. history.
Graded in Extremely Fine (XF) condition, the coin shows only light wear on the highest points, while retaining most of its original detail and sharpness. This level of preservation offers an excellent balance between collectible quality and affordability.
Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse features Lady Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed with “LIBERTY,” surrounded by stars representing the states. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. As a Type 1 coin, it does not include the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” which was added in later issues.
